Learn Chess
Privacy Policy
Last updated 15 September 2026
Learn Chess does not collect your data. There is no account, no sign-in, no advertising, and no analytics of any kind. Everything the app remembers about you stays on your device.
What the app stores
As you use Learn Chess it keeps a record of your progress so that it can pick your next puzzle and tick off the lessons you have finished:
- your puzzle rating, solve counts and streaks
- which lessons you have completed
- games you have finished, so you can play them back
- your settings — board style, computer strength, sound and so on
All of it is written to private storage on your own device. None of it is sent to us, because there is no server to send it to. We cannot see it, and we could not retrieve it if you asked us to.
Deleting everything
Open Settings → Your progress → Start over to erase your rating, your streak, every finished lesson and every saved game. Uninstalling the app also removes all of it.
Connections the app makes
Learn Chess has no backend. The chess engine, the lessons, the puzzles and the artwork are all built into the app and work with no connection at all.
Android: Google ML Kit
On Android, the coach's explanations can be reworded on your device by Gemini Nano through Google's ML Kit. This is why the Android app asks for network access. Two things happen over that connection, both between your device and Google:
- Google Play services may download the on-device language model.
- ML Kit reports its own usage diagnostics to Google.
The text being reworded is a sentence the app has already written about your chess move, and it is processed on your device. We receive nothing. Google's handling of this is covered by the Google Privacy Policy. You can switch the feature off in Settings → Playing → Smarter explanations; the app carries on explaining your moves in simpler wording.
iOS: Apple Intelligence
On iOS 26 and later the same explanations are written by Apple Intelligence entirely on your device. Nothing leaves it, and the iOS app makes no network connections at all.
Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Vibration (Android) | The small tap you feel when a piece is put down. |
| Internet, network state (Android) | Required by Google ML Kit, as described above. The app itself never contacts a server of ours. |
Children
Learn Chess is made for children who are learning the game. It collects no personal information from anyone, of any age. There is no advertising, no in-app purchase, no chat, no social feature, no link out to the web from inside the app, and nothing that identifies or tracks a user across apps or devices.
We hold no data about you. There is nothing for us to sell, share, lose or hand over, because none of it ever reaches us.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will appear on this page with a new date above.
