Learn Chess

Terms of Use

Last updated 15 September 2026

Learn Chess is a free app for learning to play chess. These terms set out what you can expect from it, and what it expects of you.

Using the app

Learn Chess is free to download and use. There is nothing to buy, nothing to subscribe to, and no account to create. You may use it for as long as you like, on as many of your own devices as you like.

If a child is using the app, the parent or guardian responsible for the device accepts these terms on their behalf.

What you may not do

Your progress

Your rating, your finished lessons and your saved games live on your device and nowhere else. There is no backup and no sync. If you erase them from Settings, uninstall the app, or lose the device, they are gone — we hold no copy and cannot restore them. See the Privacy Policy.

Ownership

The app, its chess engine, its lessons, its puzzles, its piece artwork and its sound effects belong to the developer. Nothing in these terms transfers any of that to you.

No warranty

Learn Chess is provided as it is, without any warranty. It is a teaching app written with care, and its rules engine is tested extensively, but it is not guaranteed to be free of faults or to be available at any particular time.

To the extent the law allows, the developer is not liable for any loss arising from your use of the app. Nothing here limits any right you have that cannot be limited by law, including your rights as a consumer.

Changes

These terms may change. The current version is always the one on this page, with the date shown above. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
