Questions that come up

The coach is not explaining my moves

Check Settings → Playing → Show me my mistakes is on. The coach explains a move when there was a better one — a good move is not commented on, because saying so teaches nothing.

"Smarter explanations" is switched off and will not turn on

That row needs Apple Intelligence, which asks for iOS 26 or later on supported hardware. The row itself says which of those is missing. Everything else works without it: the coach still explains every move, in simpler wording.

How do I erase my progress?

Settings → Your progress → Start over erases your puzzle level, your streak, every finished lesson and every saved game. It cannot be undone. See deleting your data.

The computer is too strong, or too easy

Settings → Playing has twenty levels. Level 1 is a gentle beginner; level 20 will beat most adults. Changing it takes effect on the next move, not the next game.

Does it work without the internet?

Entirely. The lessons, the puzzles, the engine and the coach are all built into the app. It makes no network connection of its own on iOS.

Is there an account, an advert, or anything to buy?

None of the three. Nothing is collected about you and nothing is sent anywhere — see the privacy policy.

Reporting something wrong in the chess

The rules engine is verified against published perft counts to 491 million positions, and every bundled puzzle is checked against a real board on every build — but if you find a move the app allows and should not, or a puzzle whose answer looks wrong, that is worth an email. Include the position if you can: Play → the game list keeps your finished games.
